The History of JamJoy
Founded in 1973 by Tuneo Kajiya and Jocelina Kajiya, JamJoy was born from a dream: to connect people and bring development to the Bico do Papagaio region in Tocantins. What began as an inaugural journey on dirt roads has become a story of perseverance that today connects various Brazilian states. This is our journey.
The Beginning: Pioneering in Bico do Papagaio
Founded by Mr. Tuneo Kajiya and Mrs. Jocelina Nascimento Coronado Kajiya, Jamjoy was born. The name came from the fusion of their nicknames – he, Jamil, and she, Joy.
Pioneers in the Bico do Papagaio area (in the northern region of the State of Tocantins), the couple arrived in the area in 1972 and, in December 1973, made their inaugural journey between Itaguatins and Tocantinópolis. At the time, the region suffered from a lack of transport, and Jamjoy came into being to meet this urgent need, creating the first lines that connected the population.
Challenges, Resilience, and Commitment
The early journeys were an adventure. The roads were dirt tracks, filled with numerous boggy areas. The bus carried all sorts of luggage: from chickens and pigs to curd cheese and babassu oil. It was a true market on the go!
Just like our passengers, we never gave up, even when facing countless challenges. Each difficulty was an opportunity to show our commitment to the people we serve. This perseverance and dedication is the story that has accompanied us from the beginning.
From Humble Origins to Expansion
We continue to grow, expanding into the states of São Paulo, Minas Gerais, and Bahia, Maranhão, Pará, Tocantins, Pernambuco, and Piauí. We carry with us not just our buses, but also our history.
We are eager to connect more people to their dreams, achievements, and the people they love, wherever they may be. Because being present is a gift.
