The Story of JamJoy
Founded in 1973 by the hands of Tuneo Kajiya and Jocelina Kajiya, JamJoy was born from a dream: to connect people and bring development to the Bico do Papagaio region in Tocantins. What began as an inaugural trip on dirt roads has become a story of perseverance that today connects various Brazilian states. This is our journey.
The Beginning: Pioneering in Bico do Papagaio
Founded by Mr. Tuneo Kajiya and Mrs. Jocelina Nascimento Coronado Kajiya, Jamjoy was born. The name came from the combination of their nicknames – he was Jamil, and she was Joy.
Pioneers in the operations in Bico do Papagaio (northern region of the State of Tocantins), the couple arrived in the region in 1972, and in December 1973, they made their inaugural trip between Itaguatins and Tocantinópolis. At the time, the region was suffering from a lack of transportation, and Jamjoy emerged to meet this urgent need by creating the first routes that connected the population.
Challenges, Resilience, and Commitment
The early journeys were an adventure. The roads were dirt tracks, with many muddy patches. The bus carried all sorts of cargo: from chickens and pigs to cheese curds and babaçu oil. It was like a real market!
Just like our passengers, despite facing numerous challenges, we never gave up. Each difficulty was an opportunity to demonstrate our commitment to the people we serve. This perseverance and dedication is the story that has accompanied us from the beginning.
From Humble Origins to Expansion
We continue to grow, expanding into the states of São Paulo, Minas Gerais, and Bahia, Maranhão, Pará, Tocantins, Pernambuco, and Piauí. We carry with us not just our buses, but also our story.
We are eager to connect more people to their dreams, achievements, and loved ones, wherever they are. Because being present is a gift.
